Anticipated increased water demand from the neighbouring seaside resort towns of Bushman’s River Mouth and Kenton-on-Sea necessitated an increase in the raw seawater storage capacity at the Albany Coast Reverse Osmosis Plant. Situated on the Bushman’s River Mouth the plant abstracts water from wells for desalination for bulk supplier, Amatola Water/Amanzi Board.
Challenges included:
With a proven track record in supplying water solutions to the public and private sector and numerous high-corrosion risk installations close to the sea, SBS® was appointed by the main contractor Quality Filtration Systems (QFS) to supply the tank, the platform and structural design of the founding structures.
Less than 20 days after the order was received the 1 million litre SBS® Tanks ST21/06 was ready for delivery. The modular nature of the tank meant the various components could be transferred to a smaller vehicle for delivery to the remote, difficult-to-access site. Installation was completed with the tank ready for commissioning in five and half days later.
The plant was officially opened by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu.
