Great value is placed on water in Botswana. The local currency in the drought vulnerable country is even called the ‘Pula’, which means ‘rain’ or ‘blessing’ in Setswana. As part of the company’s plan to increase its global footprint, expanding into markets to provide water security, SBS® Global Solutions has partnered with Hydrocon Green in Botswana to offer innovative water storage solutions to the region.
Part of the SBS® Group of companies, SBS® Global Solutions is a pioneer in the water storage sector, supplying modular, easy to transport and install water tanks with liners and agricultural storage solutions.
Located at the centre of Southern Africa, positioned between South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, Botswana became one of the world’s development success stories despite being one of the poorest countries at independence in 1966. With significant mineral (diamond) wealth, good governance, prudent economic management, and a relatively small population of slightly more than two million, Botswana has a transformation agenda to become a high-income country by 2036.
The Kalahari Desert covers over 80% of the 600 370km² country resulting in a mostly arid to semi-arid climate. Rainfall occurs mainly in summer, peaking in January, with an average annual rainfall of about 500mm in the northeast and less than 250mm in the other parts of the country. This makes effective water storage solutions key for water security.
Water security is key to sustainability in all sectors from manufacturing to agriculture.
