In the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, SBS Tanks East Africa (EA) took on an important project in partnership with the Moshi Water and Sanitation Authority in Tanzania. The objective was to address the growing demand for clean, reliable water in the region, particularly for the expanding population of Moshi town. The need was urgent—Moshi had outgrown its existing water infrastructure, and a dependable water solution was required to improve distribution to an estimated additional over 200,000 residents. SBS Tanks EA was tasked with delivering a water storage tank that could not only meet these demands but also do so swiftly and efficiently.
Originally, the client was inclined to install a concrete tank. However, after a comprehensive presentation by SBS East Africa, the Moshi Water and Sanitation Authority opted for a more modern, efficient solution: the SBS ST12/02 steel panel bolted tank. This decision was influenced by several factors, the most critical being the reduced delivery timeline, which was far shorter than that of a concrete tank (Read more about steel bolted tanks vs concrete reservoirs here). The tank’s steel construction, combined with a durable liner and a 10-year no-leak warranty, provided the client with the much-needed assurance of long-term performance and reliability.
Meeting the Demands of an Urgent Project
This project was unique in its urgency. The region’s rapid population growth meant that there was an immediate need for a water solution, which placed a heavy emphasis on speed without compromising quality. SBS Tanks EA lived up to this challenge by delivering the project ahead of schedule, completing it in record time. The delivery and installation of the steel tank proved to be far quicker and more cost-effective than a traditional concrete option, a key advantage that positions SBS Tanks EA as market leader in water storage.
Precision in Design and Construction
The installation of the 112,000-liter tank was straightforward but meticulously executed. The Moshi Water and Sanitation Authority built the ring beam foundation using drawings provided by SBS, ensuring it was aligned with our specifications. Without the need for jacks or scaffolding, our installation team completed the two-ring tank with precision, and the final commissioning process was carefully monitored. Once the external piping was tied into the municipal supply, the tank became a key component in Moshi’s water distribution network.
The tank’s technical specifications were tailored for the project, featuring a standard liner and larger-than-usual nozzles to accommodate the increased water flow required by the municipality. The 200NB outlet ensured efficient water distribution from the tank to the surrounding community, helping to alleviate water shortages and improve access for thousands of households.
A Positive Community Impact
The installation of the SBS tank in Moshi has had a profound impact on the local community. For many households, the tank’s addition meant, they had reliable access to clean water directly from their homes. This project not only improved the quality of life for local residents but also contributed to the town’s economic development, enabling more efficient commercial activities that rely on water access.
Beyond the immediate benefits to the community, the Moshi Water and Sanitation Authority was highly impressed with the speed and quality of the project, expressing satisfaction with the tank’s performance. This has opened the door for further collaboration on future projects, with the client considering to apply the same technology to other parts of the region.
SBS Tanks: A Solution for the Future
This project showcases the commitment, of SBS Tanks EA, to providing sustainable, high-quality water storage solutions in Africa. The success of the Moshi installation is a testament to the efficiency, durability, and flexibility of our steel panel bolted tanks, which outshine traditional concrete reservoirs in both speed of installation and long-term performance.
Our ability to meet tight deadlines while delivering exceptional quality underlines the value proposition of SBS Tanks. Not only do we provide fast, leak-proof solutions, but our tanks are also designed to last for decades with minimal maintenance, offering clients peace of mind and cost savings over the long term.
